LivingSocial Announces Holiday Hero Contest Winners

Three moms selected as Holiday Heroes for going above and beyond during the holidays and every day

WASHINGTON, Jan. 15–LivingSocial has announced the winners of its Holiday Hero contest which recognizes exceptional people who go the extra mile to make others feel special during the holidays and every day. Grand Prize winner, Paula Reynolds, won $3500 in Deal Bucks and was nominated by her daughter, Amy Thyng of Austin, Texas. Amy nominated her mom on behalf of her toddler son, Sam, whose cute gardening skills stole the show in the video entry. “We are all so excited for my mom to be acknowledged in this way,” Amy says. “She is such a hard worker and tremendous caregiver. She has always wanted to go on a nice vacation but she’s always putting other people first. Now she’s finally getting that great getaway she deserves!”

LivingSocial’s month-long Holiday Hero contest generated heartwarming entries from across the U.S. Runner up Audrey Cohen won $1000 in Deal Bucks on behalf of her future son-in-law Cedric Hall, of New York, N.Y., who wanted to recognize her for being an amazing support system as he has pursued his career. Tandy Burnam of Bowling Green, Ky. also nominated her mother, Theresa Burnam, for teaching the values of optimism, generosity, and helping others. Theresa was the third place winner of $500 in Deal Bucks.

This year’s Holiday Heroes have hundreds of experiences and products they can spend their LivingSocial Deal Bucks on from ski trips to Whistler and Aspen; beach destinations like Mexico and Greece; or dream destinations like Paris, London, Morocco or China. Alternatively, winners can spread their Deal Bucks on local deals for spas, restaurants, and services in the cities where they live.

In late November, LivingSocial invited people to recognize their Holiday Heroes by submitting short videos on why their nominee merits the title. Entrants were encouraged to explain what made the nominees a Hero, whether it was baking the best cookies or donating their time and the videos were shared on LivingSocial’s blog and via social media throughout the contest.

“Choosing just three winners was no easy task,” said LivingSocial’s Elizabeth Hebda. “We received such incredible submissions from such inspired people; it took a lot of thought to choose these winners. In the end, we believe that Amy, Cedric, and Tandy did the best job describing why their Holiday Hero deserved the title. We congratulate all the Heroes and can’t wait to hear what they do with their winnings!”
